ArtVisioner project and Fine Art gallery present «Free frame» by artist Konstantin Zmogk at Pioneer cinema. The opening of the exhibition is part of a series of rare Soviet films «Reflections», created by the The Documentary Film Center, Pioneer cinema and the international audiobooks service Storytel and supported by ArtVisioner.

ArtVisioner is a project by artist, curator and art collector Ekaterina Charkina. ArtVisioner works with cultural institutions, helps organize exhibition and social projects, searching points of intersection between art and business. The main goal of the project is to familiarize general public with art and promote artists on the Russian and international art scene.

Кonstantin Danilov (Zmogk) is one of the first graffiti artists in Russia, he started working in this genre in 1997, presented by Fine Art gallery. The artist’s works can be found across the world. Konstantin works not only with graffiti, but also with painting, illustration and NFT.

Pioneer Cinema is a hot spot for cinema lovers appreciating good video and sound quality, preferring to watch movies with the original sound with subtitles. The programme includes the main blockbuster movies — from arthouse to mainstream. Pioneer is a cinema without pop corn, which speaks volumes about its atmosphere.

“Reflections” series tells about the meaningful periods of Soviet history through feature and documentary films, created during Soviet times and touching upon topics which are interesting for us to date. Konstantin Danilov’s exhibition «Free frame» is the artist’s reaction to today’s events, with focus on the society’s emotional state.

Exhibition opening will be accompanied by the screening of a cult movie “I am Cuba” by director Mikhail Kalatozov. Authors of the script — poet Evgeny Evtushenko and Cuban writer Enrique Pineda Barnet. The film consists of four unrelated novels about people’s lives before revolutionary events on the island. The screening will be followed by discussion and the phenomenon of Sots art with art historian Boris Klyushnikov, presenter of the «Reflections» series Denis Gorelov and curator and artist Timofey Smirnov.

Konstantin Danilov’s exhibition and Mikhail Kalatozov’s film show how complicated historical periods are reflected in art.

The film shows emotions of people, limited by the regime, while Danilov’s paintings were created in 2020, when not only he was limited within the boundaries of his studio, but the whole world was experiencing limitations due to common circumstances. Both the film and the series of artwork are a splash of emotions experienced by a person facing limitations of any kind: fear, anxiety, melancholy, anticipation, hopes, liberation and freedom.

We invite everyone to experience the whole spectrum of positive emotions on the last day of summer, and take that feeling through the new projects coming up in fall!
